Born in Nara Prefecture in 1981. He entered Nakamura Sotoji Komuten (Engineering Firm) in Kyoto as an apprentice of the master carpenter of the sukiya style of buildings. After working for other design firms, he founded the Fumihiko Sano studio PHENOMENON in 2011. As its carpenter, he works on design and installation, aiming to create a new sense of value in Japan by integrating a contemporary feeling with his experience of interacting with techniques, materials, culture and others on building sites.

Participated in “An Invitation to the Delight in the Senses” held at MA2 Gallery with ”TENKAI”
Participated in “Art of Abstraction”, held at neutron tokyo with “Genzo-an”
2012 Designed a bar: 「  」MUDAI/”En yu-An” in Tokyo
Designed “MIWA” in Paris as a membership salon where Japanese culture is introduced through Origata (Japanese art of wrapping gift packages)
2013 Participated in “Arts of JOMON”, held in New York with “Ma/Ba”
Participated in ”HAJI-KABANE”, held at ROPPONGI HILLS A/D GALLERY with “Kyozo-an”
Designed furniture & fixtures and structured the venue for an exhibition traveling throughout France called “Japan Best”
Participated in the Sea Art Festival 2013 in Busan, Korea with “Ma/Layer”
Structured the venue of the photo exhibition traveling in Paris and Tokyo under the title of LUMIX MEETS TOKYO2020 BY JAPANESE PHOTOGRAPHERS 9
2014 Designed a house called “MoyaMoya”
Structured the venue of the ELLE DÉCOR International Design Awards Special Exhibition
Received Young Japanese Talented Designer Award from ELLE DÉCOR Japan
Served as the Manager and Moderator for “the Dream Vision 2020 Open Session: Breast Your Future at Kasumigaseki!” (1st) co-organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
2015 Participated in the 21_21DESIGN SIGHIT Exhibition Measuring with “UNIT of MUJI”     Produced “A House Made of Unit Shelves” on the entrance stage of MUJI, Yurakucho Store
Participated in the DESIGN TOUCH 2015 held at Tokyo Midtown with “Failing to See the Forest for the Trees”
Designed products jointly with local companies in Myanmar at the Mekong Design Selection organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion
Designed a co-working space, “MTRL KYOTO”, by renovating a 110-year-old Western style wooden building in Kyoto City
